Stephen Ireland has always been one of the favourite players of Mark Hughes, but the Stoke City manager has been struggling to give opportunities to the 29-year-old this season.
Ireland was expected to be a big presence in the midfield of Stoke this season, but he has had only 128 minutes of league action so far. All of his six appearances in the league have come as a substitute and it has led to speculation that Ireland could be on the move once again. In a recent fans meeting, defender Ryan Shawcross admitted that Ireland will be frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities. However, he remains an integral part of the club.
Santi Cazorla signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal to end any interest from Spanish clubs.
The midfielder has been an excellent buy from Mallorca. He has been one of the key players in the squad over the last couple of years. Quality provided by such players has enabled Arsenal not just end the trophy drought that went on for almost a decade, but also claim back-to-back success in the league. Along with Cazorla, Theo Walcott also extended his contract with the gunners. His future has been under major speculation since he had just 12 months left on his contract.
Former Chelsea defender José Bosingwa has revealed his desire to retire at his current club Trabzonspor.
The Portuguese has been named as captain of the club after witnessing his contributions. He has been at the Turkish club since 2013 after joining them from an ill-fated time at Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League. Bosingwa may have won numerous titles in his career – largely at FC Porto and Chelsea – but he has been widely known for his troublesome spell at QPR. The defender is keen to dismiss the negativity surrounding him. One of the ways to do so may be to win the hearts of Trabzonspor fans.
Wilson Palacios has not made a single appearance for Stoke City in this season and the player hailing from Honduras does not seem to be in the plans of the coach Mark Hughes. The contract that Palacios signed with Stoke City expires in the summer and all signs are pointing towards him leaving the Premier League club.
Palacios was signed by Stoke City back in 2011 for a transfer fee of €6 million but due to injuries and a number of other setbacks that have emerged, Palacios has only managed to make 38 appearances in 4 seasons.
Signing Wilson Palacios has turned out to be one of the worst signings of Stoke City in the past few years but the chairman of the Premier League club, Peter Coates defended the clubs’ decision on having signed the Hondurian player.
Tony Pulis recently commented that Stoke City have been doing well in the Premier League only because they have a spine of players who were brought into the club by him.
It appears to have infuriated current manager Mark Hughes, who has responded to those comments. Hughes says that he may have a number of players signed during the Tony Pulis era like Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch, but there were clear signs that the club were sinking slowly under the stewardship of Pulis. Pulis remains as the only manager in the bottom tiers of English football to have never been relegated in his career.
Former Chelsea striker Franco di Santo has been a revelation in the German Bundesliga this season.
After struggling to score goals on a consistent basis throughout his career, he appears to be finally coming good at just the right time. The Argentine has scored six goals in 10 appearances for Werder Bremen this season. This has prompted transfer interest surrounding the striker just before the January transfer window opens. The German club, though, have concretely stated that they would not be interested in selling the 25-year-old.
Stoke City would look to find a buyer for Wilson Palacios this January. The 30-year old is totally out of favour at the club presently.
Palacios gets a high amount of thirty five thousand Pounds on a weekly basis at Stoke. That’s the main reason the club management is desperate to offload him.
Palacios had made a couple of appearances for Honduras in World Cup, but, the Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has not considered him god enough to give even one playing chance in the 2014-15 Season.
According to the reports, the Stoke officials had recently met Palacios’ representative and had tried to reach some kind of agreement to get the deal terminated, but, their attempt failed.
They are hoping to be able to do something about the player at the start of the next year.
The brother of Stoke City’s Wilson Palacios was kidnapped on October 2007 by five armed men and the family was forced to pay a ransom of €125,000 in order to bring the boy back home but even though everything was paid, he was never actually released and a few years’ later police found the remains of Edwin. A funeral was made one day after the body was officially confirmed by the authorities and now Wilson Palacios has spoken about the impact and difference it has made losing his brother.
Stoke City is looking to find another buyer for the Honduras international William Palacios whose signing for a Qatar based club couldn’t get completed because of his poor fitness.
That deal had reached the final stages and Palacios just had to pass the medical test for it to get done, but, he was not able to pass that and thus, he had to make his way back to Stoke.
The Stoke manager Mark Hughes has been having regular chats with Palacios’ representative to see if there is anything which can be done about the player in the remaining few days of the window.
Nobody would have thought that Palacios would prove to be such a big flop when he had come to Stoke three years ago in 2011. Six million Pounds were spent by the Potters to have him in.
After coming to prominence during his time at Wigan Athletic, Wilson Palacios has since been suffering from a lot of poor form. This has seen his Tottenham career end much earlier than expected. After moving to Stoke City, he was expected to benefit from the regular first-team football at the Britannia stadium. However, the Honduras midfielder has failed to get to the same heights as he did at Wigan. This has led to transfer rumours linking him with a move away from English football. Palacios was not very impressive at the World Cup 2014 with the Honduras national team, who went out of the competition at the group stages.
The manager of the Honduras national football team, Luis Fernando Suarez, has said that it’s Jorge Claros who would be included in the starting line up on the place of Wilson Palacios for the upcoming World Cup match against Ecuador.
Palacios is going through a suspension period at the moment and thus, he would not be available for selection in tomorrow’s match.
The match against Ecuador is almost a do-or-die one for Honduras. They can’t afford another bad performance in that match. They have already lost one match by a big margin of 3-0 i.e. against France. So, another defeat would mean that they get very close to getting knocked out from the World Cup.
Mark Hughes has went through his first season in charge of Stoke City and it was a surprisingly impressive debut season as the club secured the 9th spot of the Premier League which is something that they have not managed on accomplishing in over 30 years.
The Welsh manager praised the work of his players as he went on saying that it a lot of work not only from himself but everyone in the club in order for Stoke City to hit the 50 points mark and stay comfortably away from the relegation spots of the top tier English league, the Premier League.
